Matahiwi Estate Syrah 2021

A supple spicy Syrah, this wine has lifted aromas of violet and pepper, and rich flavours of blueberry, plum and a dusting of cocoa. The palate is ripe and supple with fine tannins and a smooth fresh finish. Excellent with duck, venison casserole, roast beef and mushroom.

93 Points 'Excellent', Cam Douglas, MS "Aromas and flavours of dark cherry and baked raspberry, there’s a stony, crushed rock quality and lifted scents of violet and sweet oak spices. Youthful, taut and fruity on the palate with flavours and textures of black currant and dark plum, some sweet meat and dark spice qualities, firmish youthfiul tannins and a back bone of acidity. Delicious and fresh with best drinking from late 2023 through 2030+."

The fruit was harvested at optimal ripeness and crushed to open topped tanks for fermentation. A combination of pump over, plunging and post ferment maceration ensured a gentle extraction of flavour and tannin.The wine was aged in tank and French oak barrels for 16 months before blending and bottling.
