Origins and Accessibility
While Jo Nash's label is primarily available at the cellar door and high-end restaurants in Australia, there's a special treat for wine enthusiasts in New Zealand. Thanks to an importer's savvy deal, this label is offered in the New Zealand market without being affected by the Australian wet tax. This means you can savor the fruits of Jo Nash's labor without any added financial burden.
What the Critics Say
Now, let's dive into the critics' opinions. The Wine Front's Campbell Mattinson awards this wine an impressive 91/100. He tantalizingly describes the wine as having "flashes of coffee on the nose" leading to a palate characterized by currant and gentle boysenberry notes. It's medium-weight, well-balanced, with a touch of dryness, subtle dustiness, and a hint of clove. This wine is an uncomplicated yet delightful choice for those who appreciate balance and flavor. You can enjoy it from 2021 to 2025+.
Halliday's Wine Companion, through Steven Creber, also has high praise, bestowing a rating of 90/100. The grapes for this wine are sourced from a vineyard on the banks of the Goulburn River. It undergoes fermentation with wild yeast, and various batches spend between 6 to 12 months in French barriques. On the bouquet, red berries take the spotlight, with a subtle note of chocolate, likely from the oak. It's a medium-bodied wine, offering a soft and sweet-fruited palate. This wine is ready to be savored now, with a suggested drinking window up to 2028.
Jo Nash's Victoria Cabernet Sauvignon 2018 is a perfect companion for those who appreciate elegance, balance, and a touch of Australian winemaking excellence. Enjoy the journey as you uncork a bottle and savor the flavors crafted by a true wine artisan.
