How this wine feels
The fruit feels rounded as it arrives, then lime-like freshness gives the wine a clear, lively shape. A little sweetness softens that edge without taking away the mouth-watering finish. Expect detail and lift, with little drying grip.
The sliders show how strongly each characteristic comes through. Higher does not mean better.
How much presence and firmness the wine has in your mouth.
The drying, gripping feeling on your gums.
The fresh, mouth-watering edge of the wine.
Bitter, herbal or savoury character beyond the fruit.
How smooth and rounded the wine feels.
Ripe fruit character. This is not a sugar-sweetness rating.
Ripe fruit flavours can be present in dry wines. Sweet-Fruit Expression describes fruit character, not residual sugar.
Behind the bottle
The Mound Vineyard was planted on terraced gravels in the Waipara Valley in 2002. Its low-fertility soils and long, cool growing season shape this single-vineyard Riesling.
Hand-harvested and whole-bunch pressed. Only free-run juice was used, with cool fermentation and cold settling.
