France has produced the global benchmark of wine for centuries and its influence can be seen in every wine producing country today.
Several winemaking concepts and techniques, such as terroir (tear-wah), have been exported to every corner of the globe. Cuttings of French grape varieties have been smuggled in suitcases and gumboots by ambitious winemakers with the hope that they might be able to reproduce the magic of France in their home country.
Leon Palais Brut Methode Traditionelle Blanc de Blancs NVZippy on the palate, with fine mousse (the technical name for those bubbles we love) and a full mouth feel, stone fruit it dominant alongside notes of creamy peach and brioche. While full of flavour its also subtle enough as to not compete with whatever you choose to pair it with, meaning its great anytime of the day from a bubbly breakfast to a refreshing afternoon aperitif.
Belles du Sud Nach Rosé Gris 2019 (Languedoc) Grenache Gris is dusky pink mutation of the more well-known red Grenache grape, and has flavours of stone fruit and citrus. It blends well with Cinsault to create a wine that’s fruity and bright, a great one to try with aromatic dishes like Thai green curry, Pad Thai, or fresh salmon sashim
Château Les Renauds Le Duo Bordeaux Blanc 2020 (Bordeaux) Top notes are very much Sauv, with lemon and lime dancing on the palate. There are also hints of stone fruit and a backbone of floral notes from the Muscadelle. It's fruit forward, fresh and made to be drunk young.
Chateau Monsan Estebe Bordeaux Superieur 2018 (Bordeaux) It’s filled to the brim with ripe, dark fruits with a thread of vanilla and oak weaving through on the palate. Its full bodied and would pair well with a rib roast, mushroom ragu or a platter of hard chesses. Drink this one now, it won’t disappoint.
Laurent Dublanc Côtes du Rhône 2020 (Côtes du Rhône) A blend of Syrah and Grenache and Mourvedre, the colour is intense ruby red, clear and brilliant. With dark red fruit, strawberries, current and on the nose, it's rounded out in the middle with subtle vanilla and spice. So well balanced you can call it easy drinking and serious, this wine will flow right along with the conversation, wherever that turns.
Mont Tauch Fitou Vieilles Vignes 2018 (Languedoc) Delicate woody aromas alongside red fruits and sweet spices lead to long, lingering fruit flavours and silky smooth tannins on the palate. A balanced, medium to full bodied wine that's an excellent match for meat meals.
