Description
Boutique Mangawhai Syrah - generous, smooth, savoury and rare.A bold, smooth Northland Syrah for lovers of rich, dark-fruited reds.Millars Vineyard La Familia Syrah 2021 is a great match for customers who enjoy generous reds with blackberry, dark plum, gentle spice and soft, integrated tannins. You’ll likely love it if you often buy Primitivo, Shiraz, Malbec, Grenache/Syrah blends, Côtes du Rhône or smooth full-bodied reds. It has that same satisfying mix of ripe fruit, savoury warmth and rounded texture - but with a distinctly boutique Northland character. This is not the wine for you if you prefer very light, crisp or delicate reds. But if you want something bold, smooth and ready to pour, this is exactly the kind of cellar find worth grabbing by the case.
The StoryEvery now and then, we find a wine that feels like it has been quietly waiting for the right customers.Millars Vineyard La Familia Syrah 2021 is one of those wines.Made in Mangawhai, Northland, by a boutique family-owned vineyard, this Syrah reflects a very particular slice of New Zealand. The vines sit on an ancient floodplain, sheltered by the Brynderwyn ranges and cooled by sea breezes from Mangawhai’s coastal landscape. That combination gives the wine its charm: ripe dark fruit, but not heaviness; savoury spice, but not harshness; smooth tannin, but enough structure to feel satisfying. The name La Familia is no throwaway label either. This wine was made as a family tribute, and you can feel that warmth in the glass. It is generous, personal and unforced - the kind of wine that does not need medals or noise to make its point. We were lucky enough to find the last 44 cases still resting in the Millars cellar, and we snapped them up for Wine Central customers who enjoy bold, smooth reds with real character.
At just $13.99 per bottle by the case, this is outstanding buying for a mature, handcrafted New Zealand Syrah from one of Northland’s most distinctive red wine producers. Once these cases are gone, we do not expect to see this wine again.
