Meet the maker: San Marzano

San Marzano vineyard in spring

Buy any San Marzano product this July and go in the draw to win tickets to Vino Italiano presented by Sapori!*

It's an afternoon of tasting through Italian wines on Sat 31st August.

San Marzano is a small village in the heart of the Primitivo di Manduria DOC region. It was in 1962 that 19 winemakers came together and founded Cantine San Marzano in an area that wasn't at that time a DOC region but would soon be.

It wasn't until 1996 that the first bottles came out the cellar and this started a new chapter for San Marzano as they began to reach the end consumer.

To this day San Marzano embody the collision of tradition and contemporary winemaking. They are driven to "make a wine just like the one of our fathers did," and they achieve this by producing wines that are a celebration of viticulture and the history of the land.

The Collections

San Marzano have 13 different collections from reserve to organic wines.

Naca is the organic collection that shows a strong sense of terroir and made without any chemicals. It's just the one, humble Primitivo in this collection but it tells a big story!

The Il Pumo wines are dedicated to the heart of the ancient village and San Marzano speak of these wines whispering good luck to passersby.

Talo thanks the families of vine growers who nurture these precious vineyards. Each and every family has a story and this collection pays homage to them and their dedication.

Anniversario 62 is then an ode to where it all began. To those 19 winemakers who were determined to demonstrate the potential of the wines from Salento and thus began San Marzano. The Primitivo is made from old vineyards and this rich, hearty drop will age well for years to come. Just like the San Marzano brand will.
