ABOUT CHURCH ROAD

The GWEN Collection

Church Road Gwen Chardonnay 2022

Gwen Chardonnay explores a more elegant, feminine and refined style of winemaking. This is predominantly coastal Chardonnay from Te Awanga and Tuki Tuki, the cool sea breeze in these areas helps to retain fragrance and fresh acidity in the fruit. The vines were trained to two cane VSP and the fruit was very gently pressed which reduces the juice yield, but avoids excessive extraction of the astringent skins and seeds and therefore greatly benefits quality. The wine itself is dry and finely textured with subtle stonefruit and floral notes with fresh acidity and a mineral edge
make this a sophisticated drink that will work well as an aperitif or a versatile food wine.

Church Road Gwen Rosé 2021

70% of the wine was made from an early harvest of Merlot from our Redstone Vineyard. Situated 30m above sea level in the renowned Bridge Pa Triangle Winegrowing District, this area is sheltered by Roy’s Hill from cold air draining out of the high country. Only the very early free run juice is taken off the press for this wine, ensuring good acid retention and minimal extraction of colour and astringency from the skins. This produces a fine textured, rose of great delicacy. This is an off dry and finely textured Merlot rose with subtle ripe red fruit, gentle herb and floral notes with fresh acidity and a mineral edge, making this a sophisticated drink that will work well as an aperitif or as a versatile food wine
