Dark violet in hue, the nose is filled with velvety aromas of black cherry and plum laced with espresso and toasted marshmallow. Full-bodied flavours of ripe raspberry, black liquorice, and clove carry the wine through its lingering, spice-laden finish.

A claimed favourite varietal to both Michael and David Phillips, Syrah was first planted by the brothers in 1982 after falling in love with wines produced from the grape on a trip through southern France. This vineyard, located just a hop, a skip and a jump from the winery, is one of the earliest plantings of Syrah in California. With Michael's son Kevin continuing the Phillips grape growing tradition into the 6th generation, this Syrah vineyard was one of the first he tended to as Vineyard Manager of Michael David Winery.

15% abv. 16 months - 64% French oak (18% new), 36% American oak (11% new).

With over 150 years of family farming, the Michael David name has become more than just a winery; it’s a culture. Their roots run deep in Lodi as they've been farming this soil since the 1860s and cultivating wine grapes since the early 20th century. Their founders, brothers Michael and David Phillips, are 5th-generation grape growers who have raised their families in the vineyard. Now, the 6th generation has joined the team, Mike’s son Kevin and daughter Melissa. More than most, they understand the importance of leaving it better than you found it for future generations. Their family legacy and love of Lodi drive our focus on sustainability.

Their unconventional collection of wines are all responsibly grown in Lodi, California according to the Lodi Rules, a set of over 100 standards that account for all aspects of making quality wine in a sustainable manner: environmental, social, and economic.
