Details

This wine is a pure expression of the Verdicchio grape, a native variety that has found its perfect home in the hills of Marche. The vineyards, aged between eight and thirty years and trained on the Guyot system, are perched on hillsides 200 to 350 meters above sea level. These conditions contribute to the wine's unique character, as do the deep, medium-calcareous clay loam soils that date back to pleiocene-pleistocene formations.

The meticulous crafting of this wine begins with a hand-harvest that takes place from late September to early October. The timing is crucial to achieve the perfect balance between sugar content, phenolic ripening, and acidity. After a light pressing, the prime must is rapidly cooled and undergoes static decantation. Fermentation occurs in temperature-controlled steel tanks at 16° to 18°C for 10-15 days. Notably, the wine does not undergo malolactic fermentation, preserving its natural acidity. It then ages in steel for about five months, in contact with its own yeasts, before being bottled and allowed to rest for a few more months.

The result is a wine that embodies all the values of a great indigenous variety. Its contact with natural yeasts during fermentation and aging gives it richness and personality, without compromising its fine balance and special elegance. Whether you're pairing it with a meal or enjoying it as a stand-alone experience, Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi DOC Classico Superiore offers a journey into the heart of what makes Italian wines so captivating. Here's to the joy of discovery and the freedom to explore your own taste preferences.

The Family

The Umani Ronchi winery has a rich history that spans over 60 years, rooted in the heart of Italy's Verdicchio Classico production zone in Cupramontana. Founded by Gino Umani Ronchi, the winery was later acquired by Roberto Bianchi and his son-in-law Massimo Bernetti, who infused new entrepreneurial energy into the venture. Massimo Bernetti's leadership was marked by a focus on expanding market share abroad, particularly in Germany and the UK, and increasing production through the addition of Rosso Conero wines. His son Michele Bernetti later joined the winery, bringing with him a fresh perspective and a commitment to innovation, which has helped Umani Ronchi earn numerous accolades and become a symbol of Italian excellence in the wine industry.

Today, under Michele Bernetti's stewardship, Umani Ronchi continues to evolve as a global brand. The winery has garnered several prestigious awards, including a Gold Medal from Decanter and Gambero Rosso’s award for White of the Year. Michele was also chosen as "Le Marche’s Wine Ambassador" for the Milan Expo in 2015. The winery's commitment to quality and innovation is evident in its organic conversion and certification of all its vineyards, as well as its membership in the Istituto del Vino di Qualità – Grandi Marchi, which brings together 18 of Italy's most important wine families
