All Vavasour wines are 100% varietal and true, honest expressions of their Awatere Valley terroir. Complex and elegant, the 2016 Chardonnay delivers a dynamic bouquet of apricot, nectarine, baked bread a touch of cashew nuttiness. The palate is full and round with stone fruit characters, layers of rich minerality and a saline acidity.

The fruit for our 2016 Chardonnay is composed of estate fruit from the Home Vineyard in the Awatere Valley. After handpicking, the fruit was whole bunch pressed and wild fermented in French oak barriques (18% new). Vavasour Chardonnay is made from a mix of Clone 95 (for elegance) and Mendoza (for richness). The wine was aged in oak for nine months with weekly lees stirring to enhance the texture and flavour.

"Bright, even straw-yellow colour with pale green-gold hues, lighter on the edge. The nose is softly voluminous with layers of ripe yellow peaches and citrus fruits along with complexing mealy detail, entwined with creamy barrel-ferment, and nutty, toasty oak elements. The aromatics are very harmonious in expression and subtly build in presence in the glass. Medium-full bodied, the palate has good weight and depth of white and yellow stone fruit flavours intermixed with savoury, mealy notes, creamy barrel-ferment and nutty oak elements. The flavours are stylishly restrained but gently fill the mouth. The fruit forms a finely detailed and textured core with good concentration, and the wine flows positively with balancing acid freshness, leading to a sustained finish of stone fruits and nuts. This is a subtly flavoured, complex-layered Chardonnay with stone fruit, mealy, creamy and nutty flavours on a finely textured and concentrated palate. Serve with grilled and roasted seafood, poultry and pork dishes over the next 4+ years. Clone Mendoza and 95 fruit from the Awatere Valley, from original Vavasour vines, planted 1986, hand-picked, WBP, and fully barrel-fermented to 14.0% alc., the wine aged 10 months in 18% new French oak barriques, 80% undergoing MLF."

You may return most new, unopened items within 30 days of delivery for a full refund. We'll also pay the return shipping costs if the return is a result of our error (you received an incorrect or defective item, etc.).

Shipping

Shipping is $7.99 NI and $9.99 SI up to 12 bottles. For 13 or more bottles shipping is $14.99 NI and $17.99 SI. We do not ship outside of New Zealand. We estimate delivery to be up to 3-4 working days for urban NZ addresses, and up to 5 working days for rural delivery. Offshore islands can take longer still. We are unable to deliver to PO Boxes. Delivery is via NZ Couriers.
