"Mendoza is the world HQ for the black grape of Cahors, also known as Cot in south west France where Malbec originally comes from. This wine is bold crimson in colour with a youthful brightness and, likewise, lovely fresh flavours of dark berries, which put Malbec’s fruitiest foot forward and allow this grape’s naturally spicy tones to shine. Big bold and smooth." - 4 Stars, Joelle Thomson, Wine Writer

"Wine aged in cement intrigued yet? Well we were! So we brought in a few cases direct from the Uco Valley, Argentina and have been pleasantly surprised with the result. Deep and intense aromas of cherries and plums, with great fruit concentration due to the high altitudes the grapes are grown at. Rather than the usual oak ageing, this wine spent approximately 18 months in cement which helped the winemakers at Trapiche to create a fresher, fruit forward style of wine without any oaky or oxidative (hopefully!) flavours. It’ll be great to quaff tonight, or in a few years give it a few minutes in a big deep glass to breathe and you won’t be disappointed." - Wine Central Tasting Panel

Meet the maker

Trapiche Mendoza Winery

Trapiche Wines, located at the foothills of the Andes Mountains in Mendoza, Argentina, has a long and successful history since its founding in 1883. Being one of the oldest wine brands in Argentina, they are now the largest exported premium wine in the country.

Trapiche is a hugely positive force that drives the national wine industry and economy. Trapiche Wines owns and operates numerous vineyards throughout Argentina that encompass nearly 2,500 acres. They also source grapes from over 200 independent producers, making them a vital part of the agricultural industry.

Originally a French grape, Malbec really took hold of Argentina and now the Malbec is often considered a South American grape. The terroir and soil are ideal for growing Malbec. However, they produce a large variety of other wines that are well-deserving of your attention as well.
