Premium Pinots from across the world!

Folium Pinot Noir 2018 Silky, spicy, and smart, with a beautifully concentrated core of bright red fruit with the added complexity of savoury, earthy notes, and a truly fine textural element. The structure has been helped along thanks to spending 16 to 18 months in French oak barriques. This is exceptionally good in the superb 2019 Marlborough vintage.

The Pinot Noir is hand harvested and everything is destemmed. Then it is fermented in open top fermenters with indigenous yeast, and it is pumped over for 2-3 minutes a day with no plunging, which is just enough to get gentle extraction. There’s no cold soak but the grapes are picked in the early morning, so fermentation takes a while to get going. The pinot is pressed to French oak, between 20-33% new depending on the vintage.

Earthkeepers Otaki Pinot Noir 2015 Bright radiating black/red cherry colour. Aromas of wild berries, herbs and flowers. The palate is bright, energetic with beautiful acidity, medium body and the most unique tannins that are subdued with a lovely savoury twist. “The most memorable wines, those that stir the senses and emotions, are always from places that are special. - EarthKeepers

Candice Chow: Medium ruby-red with a garnet hue, lighter on the rim. The bouquet is integrated, gently lifting sour cherries, dried strawberries and a hint of plums, pine interweave mushroom and forest floor. Medium-light bodied, vibrant acidity carries sour cherries, dried strawberries and plums, unveiling medicinal herbs, lavender, mushroom and forest floor. The flavours are delicate and enticing; lively, lacy acidity draws a long line with powdery minerals and supple tannins to a long, peppery finish. This hauntingly beautiful Pinot Noir shows delicate fruit, acid precision, and complex alluring development. Match with foie gras stuffed pigeon and smoked duck over the next 2-4 years. 13% alc. 18.5+/20 pts (94 pts) May 2022

Hawkshead Pinot Noir 2021 Hawkshead Is a boutique Central Otago winery started by Denis Marshall & his partner Ulrike Kurenback when they bought some land in Gibbston, next to Valli Winery, in 1995, and after a wait, planted vines in 2001. Previously this property has been part of a merino sheep farm called Watiri Station. Initially, plantings were just Pinot Noir, but then Pinot Gris, Riesling and more recently Pinot Blanc were added. Their vision for growing vines with minimal interference to the natural environment meant they were able to create a sustainable, artisan winery coupled with the legendary winemaking skills of Dean Shaw, they were able to deliver vintages of the greatest character.

“Clearly, 2020 was a good vintage for Gibbston if this wine is any indication. Pinot noir with purity, power, and a strong sense of place. Red cherry and berry and fresh herb flavours underpinned by juicy acidity.” 93/100 Bob Campbell MW

This wine was aged in French oak for 9 months to develop delightfully smooth tannins. This is an exceptionally elegant Pinot with complex aromas of baking spices, plums, raspberries &cherries with fresh red fruit flavours in the mouth. Layered with earthy forest floor notes, mushroom, & minerally elements with a slight peppery vegetal character on the finish. Smart, elegant & with balanced acidity.

Domaine Rewa Pinot Noir 2017 Deep purple with purple hues. Fragrant spice, dried herb and cinnamon with violet, bramble, black fruit, plum and mushroom notes. The palate is full and rich with ripe black cherry, blackberry, plum, blackcurrant, and dark bramble with hints of olive, tobacco and black pepper. Ample silky to medium grained chewy tannins with nice minerality. Complex and concentrated with a long leathery finish. Biodynamic and organic.

Candice Chow: Bright, medium ruby-red with depth, even colour throughout. The bouquet is attractive and concentrated with fragrances of red florals, raspberries and red cherries; melded with thyme and lifted spices. Medium-bodied with a lightness; energized by mouthwatering acidity. Tightly concentrated flavours of red cherries, raspberries; interweaved dried red florals and spices. Spicy oak and dark herb aromas add interest, with bright acidity enhancing the sweetness and providing liveliness to the tightly bounded, fine-structured smooth tannin. A little alcohol power drives the wine, which finishes with long and lingering liquorice and spiced red cherries. This is a concentrated Pinot Noir, flavours of red fruit, herbs and spicy oak on a finely-structured palate. Match with pork and duck over the next 4-6 years. Fruit from Lowburn, clone 5 and 113, with 10% whole bunch fermented together in open-top tanks to 13.7% alc. Aged in French oak barriques for 11 months, 27% new. Biodynamic farming. BioGro organic certified. 18.5/20pts June 2020

Johner Estate Pinot Noir 2020 Rich in colour. Developed and savoury on the nose with gamey aromas, French herbs, and porcini. The palate is soft and long with a splash of tingling, mouth-watering fruit acidity on the finish. This Pinot noir will increase in complexity as it matures over the next five years. “The Johner wines have been made with elegance and food-matching in mind, rather than as ‘one glass’ wine show winners.” - Raymond Chan
