Pit Primitivo against Zinfandel other for an absolutely stunning celebration of this jammy, juicy-tasting grape! It's an age-long argument whether or not Primitivo and Zinfandel are the same grape. The answer: basically. There are only very slight differences in their genetic makeup, most likely coming from natural and geographical changes. Both are from an ancient indigenous Croatian grape. This grape is known as Primitivo in Italy and Zinfandel in the United States, Australia, and other New World wine countries that grow this grape. You may also find Primitivo in New World countries. This simply means that those vines are from Italy or from the exact clone of the Italian Primitivo.

Lifili Primitivo 2021 (Puglia, Italy) Dark ruby red with bouquet of cherries and dried plums. These notes are accompanied by spicy aromas of vanilla and rosemary. This red wine from Puglia is perfectly balanced, complex, silky, and has a long finish.

Knotty Vines Red Blend 2018 (California, USA) The indulgent confluence of Merlot, Malbec, Zinfandel and Petit Verdot results in a velvety blend of ripe plum, coffee, black cherry and chocolate flavours with a smooth, rich finish. 31% Zinfandel, 28% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, 16% Malbec.

Pasqua Desire Lush Zin Primitivo 2022 a prime example of Primitivo at its best: soft and velvety, with rich, concentrated flavours of red berries, plums, vanilla and spice, and hints of coffee and cinnamon. For best results, decant.

Bogle Family Vineyards Old Vine Zinfandel 2019 The 60-80 year old vines that are used in this Zinfandel produce a smaller crop of unusually rich and concentrated grapes which are then aged for 12 months in 2 year old American oak. This results in intense blackberry, black cherry and raspberry flavours with a smooth blanket of vanilla and oak encasing it all. Saturated with flavour and silky smooth, this is decadent Zinfandel to be savoured with rich sausages or gorgonzola cheese.

Varvaglione 12 E Mezzo Primitivo del Salento IGP 2020 A collection of wines made by the emerging generations, backed by years of traditional winemaking and knowledge of the grapes and the land – what more could you want? The 12 e Mezzo collection from the Varvaglione estate is just that, a line of sustainably made wines crafted in an easy-drinking and approachable style. Intensely fruity, with notes of vanilla, cherries and cocoa. It's aromatic and elegant with cocoa and vanilla to finish.

Lifili Familia Primitivo DOP 2022 Aged in French and American oak barrels for six months, it boasts a deep ruby-red hue with purple undertones. It has an abundant aroma of ripe cherries, plums, and hints of vanilla and cocoa, leading to a full-bodied palate with soft, elegant tannins and a lingering, satisfying finish. Savoury first courses, lamb, game with rich sauces, and mature cheese.
