Bordeaux is one of, if not the most, well-known wine regions in the world. A wide range of wines is produced here from Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon just to name a few. These grapes are grown across the region and in a range of terroirs, producing wines of a superior quality. If you’re new to the area or just want to learn a bit more about the wines, then this is a great first step. The Chateaux Collection brings together four chateaux, three vintages and a handful of grapes to give you a well rounded introduction to Bordeaux. In terms of vintage, 2015 produced a great drop, 2016 produced more depth of flavour and 2017 was marked by a devastating frost that made this year's wine ready to be consumed earlier than normal. Our recommendation? Open them all, let them breathe and hold a mini tasting with family or friends and see what you like best. Is it the 100% Merlot from Chateau le Bocage, or the blend from ChateauHaut-Plantey? Do you prefer the youth of the Saint Martin or the age of a Bordeaux Supérieur? The Bordeaux appellation has a wide and varied range of terroirs which produce some of the finest wine in the world. The winegrowers in the region use the breadth of the area to grow grape varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc which produce wines of rare quality and elegance.
Chateau le Bocage Bordeaux Superiuer 2015 (Merlot)
Bordeaux Supérieur is an appellation tier applied to wines made within the generic Bordeaux AOP zone. They are produced from the classic Bordeaux grape varieties. The reds are, as their name implies, intended to be a slightly "superior" form of standard Bordeaux AOC wines. They therefore rely heavily on Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon with smaller amounts of Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Malbec. Average age of vines, 35 years. Oak aged 12 months in barrel. Black fruit, vanilla, cherry chocolate and hints of violet. Château Le Bocage is an attractive sight to behold, with well-kept vineyards surrounding an elegant 19th century country house.The vineyard borders the Fronsac appellation and shares some characteristics.The wine is an attractive deep ruby-red color. It is very open on the nose, with well-developed fruit overtones, and hints of violets. Château Le Bocage is soft , velvetty, well-balanced and full of fruit (blackcurrant, cherry), with a lovely, long aftertaste.
Chateau Haut-Plantey Medoc 2016
Merlot, Cab Sauv blend. Vinified in tanks and in barrels followed by an early bottling to preserve its fruity character.Tasting Notes : Fruity, balanced with a supple structure, it is a perfect wine to be consumed with friends or during a meal. Food wine pairing : This wine pairs perfectly with all the culinary preparations, from classic French cuisine to modern cooking. Try this wine with meat, steak, roast beef or veal, roasted chicken or as an aperitif.

Chateau Saint Martin Bordeaux 2017
Region : Bordeaux Grape Variety : Bordeaux Blend Red ABV : 13% Stopper : Cork Medium bodied red wine. Ruby red in colour, on the nose, aromas of cassis and red fruits with notes of vanilla. Silky tannins. Well-balanced in acidity. Savory and classic red wine in style. On the palate, juicy and easy drinking, delivers ripe and dark red fruits character, rounded and balanced. It has long finish. Pairs with beef and venison. Drinking temperature: 15 °C.
Summary: Bordeaux 2017 was marked by devastating frosts early in the growing season. That said, en primeur tastings showed there is a lot of pleasure in this vintage if you know where to look. In terms of drinking, 2017 will be earlier to approach than the 2015s or 2016s, probably coming into play around the same time as the 2014s, so think six to eight years rather than 10 to 12. The best Médoc red wines since 2010 as a general rule, although several estates also produced excellent 2015s, especially in Margaux and southern parts of Médoc and Left Bank in general. A number of Bordeaux 2016 wines have improved in the bottle since en primeur season. On the Right Bank, Pomerol is a particular highlight. Wines have power and ageing potential, but lack some of the seductive charm of the 2015s. Jane Anson.
Predominantly a victory for the Right Bank, although Château Margaux’s 100-point effort would beg to differ. No doubt at all that the Pessac-Léognan and Margaux appellations produced some spectacular wines, but for consistency of achievement you have to go to St-Emilion and Pomerol. There are plenty of good options at Cru Bourgeois level in this vintage. Jane Anson.
