Metro Winter Wine Awardee 2017, Arriba!! When a wine is produced by a current MW (Kiwi Steve Bennett to be precise!) from grapes sourced from old vines in the heart of Spanish wine regions, La Mancha and Valdepenas, you know you’re in for a treat! Ranked in the top winter wines by Metro in 2017, Arriba is 100% Tempranillo – rich, full bodied and delicious. Soft tannins, easy acid and with flavours of ripe berries, cedar and tomato leaf, grab a bottle or a case, but make sure its part of your dinner table this winter!
An amazing value Spanish red created by local importer Steve Bennett, Master of Wine to introduce consumers to the delights of Spain’s signature Tempranillo variety. Sourced from 25-40 year old vines sourced in La Mancha and Valdepenas. A soft, supple, vibrant, plummy red with refreshing acidity and soft tannins to partner a wide variety of cuisine and with a host of accolades over the past five vintages.
“Tempranillo is the reigning monarch of Spanish grape varieties – it makes some of Spain’s most expensive reds, but also some of its greatest value wines. Plum, tomato leaf, cedar, this almost smells like a merlot or a cabernet, but the difference is more marked in the mouth, which is rounded and generous. Moderately weighty, with great structure, Arriba is a fabulous introduction to the world of Spanish wine, at an amazing price.”
Paul Tudor, Master of Wine -Metro Top 50 Wines of Winter 2017
“This is instantly appealing on the nose displaying dark plum, blueberry and violet characters with subtle spice complexity. The palate delivers excellent fruit purity and intensity, wonderfully supported by silky texture and fleshy mouthfeel, leading to a lingering juicy finish. The wine is modern and highly enjoyable.” Sam Kim, Wine Orbit
"I tasted this wine blind alongside a couple of extremely well regarded New Zealand wines which cost double the price and was amazed to see this wine unveiled as a $12 red from Spain; it's so soft, approachable and fruity in taste that it's nothing short of an exceptional bargain." Joelle Thomson, The Dominion Post
