"North facing slopes in Bannockburn ensure the grapes in this wine gain maximum ripeness in this cool, southern climate. Average vine age is 21 to 22 years old, which can reduce yields (the amount of grapes harvested) and concentrate flavours as a result. We’re sure you’ll agree this dry, fruity, spicy expression of Pinot Noir puts its best foot forward." - 4 Stars, Joelle Thomson, Wine Writer
From a vintage with an exceptionally warm, dry spring and extraordinary summer heat comes a juicy, sophisticated and complex Central Otago Pinot. A deep yet luminous ruby in the glass with ripe plums, rich red cherries and hints of warm spices on the nose. The palate is graceful with acidity that's juicy yet refined, and delicate supple tannins lengthen the smoky mineral finish. Earthy notes emerge to round out the wine.
“I love the transparency in this vintage of Akarua Pinot Noir. By that I mean I can really see the rugged beauty of our mountain vineyards in the wine. The wild thyme, rosehip and scrubby brambles are so present, as is a perfume of the rocks and bony soils of the mountains. Vine age is really starting to play its part, as the flavours in the fruit reflect a picture of the vineyards in a complex and intriguing way." - Andrew Keenleyside, Winemaker
