The appearance is a dark, deep blackish-ruby hue. The nose is bold and intense, with black fruit and plum aromas, black pepper, walnut and hints of vanilla. On the palate, it's full-bodied with exceptional black fruit intensity. Big structured, with supple tannins and a long, persistent finish. This wine, of great structure and concentration, is designed to reward extensive cellaring. 100% Sangiovese, the grapes for this wine come from the 1.33 hectare (3.20 acres) Poggio Sant’ Enrico Piccolo and the 3.65 hectare (8.76 acres) Poggio Sant’ Enrico Grande vineyards. These are situated between 300 and 350 meters (~1,000ft) in elevation just outside the town of Montepulciano (Siena). After small lot fermentation in cement vats, the wine is placed in new American and French oak barrels, for a period of 12 months. Following this, the unfiltered wine is bottled and stored in temperature controlled cellars for approximately 45 months before release.

92 Points - Wine Enthusiast

“This is an evolved and sophisticated Vino Nobile with rich concentration, dense texture and very pretty, wood-driven notes of vanilla and spice that are splashed evenly over black currants, plums and prunes. The wine exhibits harmony and balance, and although it is on the thick or gritty side, it does have the natural tannins to pair with succulent meat.” – Wine Enthusiast
